The newest iPhone looks quite interesting, but I am still not going to get it. Anyways, the reasoning for this post is a commercial I saw for this incarnation of the iPhone. The advertisement was dedicated to showing off the phone’s “copy and paste” feature, which I suppose was not available on the previous iPhone. It says, “You can copy and paste an article in to an email… you can even copy a map…” and some other things. My question is why dedicate a commercial to a feature that has been available on the oldest of computers for decades? I don’t think I have seen any ad devoted to just one feature, and out of all the things they could have chosen, they choose copy and paste? Pretty unthoughtful if you ask me.
I was with these people on a vacation, along with this girl named Katie. Everybody else was gone and it was time to go to sleep, and I asked if I could sleep with her just because I wanted to be close to her, and she said okay. So we lied down and I held on to her, and it was very, very nice. Then a little bit later everyone came back and we had to move around, and I had to leave the comfortable position and it was unfortunate.
Then a lot of people came over, and Katie performed a sexual act on someone right in the middle of the room, and it made me feel horrible. I went up to her and asked why she did that with me right there, since she knew it would make me feel bad, and she said it didn’t matter.
Note: The first part of this dream was very good, since I do like this person in real life. However, the second part was extremely unsettling, but it was good in that it strengthened my desire to reach this particular goal.
I was somewhere, and there was this girl with me, and for some reason she started holding me so I held her too. We stayed that way for awhile and then went on a walk. Then she had to go so she did, and I felt happy.
Note: There was A LOT more to this dream, including what I believe were some negative parts, but the part described and what I remember is all good.
I was at Senior Week again with a lot of people. I kept trying to get near this girl but it was difficult, so I stopped trying. Then I was telling my friend Garrett about how I got charged with possession, and all of a sudden the cop who charged me was in our house, and I’m like, “That’s the cop right there, and I just had a brownie so – ” but then I stopped because if he knew I was high, then he could breathalize me to find the THC, and since I was about to drive home, he could get me for a DUI too. He said something to me but didn’t do anything. The girl who I was trying to see before said she was staying an extra day, but I was going home that day so I left. As I did, I saw other people on the road and some people standing on the side of the road, so I pulled over. I saw a few graves, including one with the name of one of my good friends, and it was devastating. I kept thinking how she could have died and how horrible it was.
Note: It was very satisfying to wake up and know my friend was not dead. As for the breathalizer part, that’s not real; THC cannot be through methods of that sort. They can only find out if you have THC metabolites in your system, which could be as long as 30 days ago. I also believe there was a longer, second segment to this dream that resembled segments I have been having a lot lately but haven’t been able to remember; that is, being chased or chasing someone through a house. I think that happened in this dream, but whenever it does in any of my dreams, I always seem to have problems remembering that specific part.
Society is just an illusion, there is no such thing. This works off my prior post that the world is only individuals. By individuals striving to do their best and achieve their goals, the illusion of society is created, this illusion being that the world has a perfect working order and there is such thing as the masses. Really, the world is a place for the individual to achieve what they want to do using the world around them; that is the case for every body. It is a good thing!
I hate philosophical theories that drain motivation, such as idealism and fatalism. Are people going to say that the one life we have, the one form of existence, is fake and/or meaningless? What an insult to the magnificence of life! The fact that we are here is incredibly amazing. But as I’ve also said, it makes no difference. No matter what, the individual strives for what they want, and this world must allow individuals to achieve their desires!
As an individual, sometimes it can seem overwhelming going up against the world, or thinking in terms like that. All throughout human history, the world has just been individuals. There is no such thing as the masses, only large collections of individuals. Each individual forms their own idea of the world and lives to try to fit in with it; every single human is just fitting in. As individuals, we are very powerless, but as humanity, we are an extremely strong force. Despite are metaphysical weakness, we can still strive to reach our full potential, and contribute to the world in the best way we can.
In this economy, all the non-profits are struggling for cash. I recently saw an ad by the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) that said, “William Purvis Invented the Fountain Pen. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Support the UNCF.” This comes from their long line of “Inventions from African-Americans”, many of which are featured here. The ad there includes Purvis and his fountain pen, but the one I saw was somewhat different, and used the word “invent” as opposed to “develop”, but they mean the same thing.
The point is, William Purvis did not invent the fountain pen, although he did make improvements to it. However, on the Wikipedia page for Fountain Pen, in the History portion, Purvis’ name is not even mentioned; therefore, his role could not have been that great. The UNCF is apparently stretching the truth for some cash. Well, what can you expect from a bunch of… no, that’s just in bad taste, ha. But I do understand where they are coming from. They need money for their mission, it is just a fact of life. If you have to rob a few grandmothers to achieve that goal, that’s what you have to do, but the ends justifying the means is a whole other topic.
Every physical thing that happens due to a human has a lifetime of experience behind it. For example, if somebody moved a chair four meters to the left, that chair would have been altered by someone who had a childhood, thoughts, experiences, hopes, etc. What goes in to the food you eat is the work of thousands of people, who each have a life as intense and challenging as you. We are not alone in this world; we are inexplicably linked in ways we cannot fathom, and because of this link, we must all work to be strong parts of the chain.
Last week, that is, May 30th to July 6th, 2009, I went to Ocean City, MD, where I stayed with some friends in a beachfront house. There, I learned the true value of freedom, as I was able to go anywhere I wanted at any time, and I had enough money to do basically anything I wanted to do. It was amazing, and the quote, “Freedom is the last, best hope of humanity,” now makes perfect sense. Freedom is certainly something that must be fought for, and if you don’t think it is vitally important, just think about how life would be if it was lost.
There are so many other people in the world, it makes one realize a few things. First, the individual is extremely insignificant, outweighed by the hugeness of everyone else. Conversely, the individual is also very special and unique, because of the feelings and desires contained in each one.
Most importantly, other people give all of our actions meaning. What we do has meaning because it is acknowledged by others, and some has meaning just because it is acknowledged by ourselves. I have learned that one of the very important reasons to live to your fullest potential is to fulfill your obligation to other humans, both for assisting you in survival and making your life have meaning.
